Job Description

A leading sustainable technologies company are looking for a PhD qualified Product Development Manager to lead product development activities. Responsible for scale-up, engineering and synthesis of next generation Lithium Ion battery materials for external customers. You will have direct impact to product innovation and process development teams, to fully understand, develop and commercialise new products.

The Role

As Product Development Manager you will lead the technical interaction with external customers; driving the development of new high-energy lithium ion battery materials by understanding and communicating market and customer needs
The Product Development Manager will lead a team responsible for interacting with customers as technical experts and development programme leads
You will lead a team responsible for conducting the lab-scale synthesis of nickel-based mixed metal oxides by various methods; working closely with the product innovation team to harness and transfer breakthrough technologies into customer-winning products, and the process scale-up team to transfer production to the larger scale to meet customer demand
Breed a ‘production focus` in the product development team; achieving targets by taking mitigated risks
As Product Development Manager you will interact closely with product innovation, process development and scale up teams, forming a key part of the NPI pipeline to drive the commercialisation of new products
Support the Global commercial team as a technical expert via direct customer engagement

The Candidate

The Product Development Manager must be PhD-qualified in materials science or chemistry, or a related area; alternatively, you must have demonstrable experience in a similar role from a related field of expertise and be able to demonstrate your strong technical and scientific understanding and knowledge.
Experienced with the synthesis and characterisation of complex metal oxides, using both standard and advanced techniques
Experienced characterising & innovating battery materials; direct experience with high nickel materials will be viewed as a distinct advantage
Have commercial and IP awareness of the battery materials field
Experienced interacting with external customers with a track record of product development of commercial value
Experienced recruiting and managing direct reports
Excellent, versatile and timely written skills; capture technical details in documents that will transfer into scale-up methodologies and effectively engage with language specific to IP applications and other company functions
Ability to travel domestically and internationally
