Job Description

The Manufacturing Technology Centre is a UK success story - created to provide manufacturing systems solutions in an agile environment in partnership with industry, academia and other institutions. Working in partnership with Consilium Recruit they are seeking an Industrial Controls and Connectivity Engineer. The purpose of the role is to support the Intelligent Automation theme in particular the Controls and Connectivity technical area with creative problem solving, solution concepts, system design and integration.

The Role

The Industrial Controls and Connectivity Engineer is expected to contribute mostly to Intelligent Process Control/Intelligent Automation/Digital Manufacturing/Industry 4.0 related projects, support the management of R&D and commercial projects and provide technical leadership to less experienced staff.

Duties and responsibilities of the Controls and Connectivity Senior Research Engineer include:
Provide technical and sub-team leadership to others in areas of expertise
Technical leadership and management of project and/or work package portfolio >£100K
Lead project proposal and business case writing for small and medium projects
Lead technical liaison with customer during project delivery
Lead engagement with existing customers to win repeat business
Generation of new project ideas in alignment with the theme`s strategy
Own career development through mentoring, coaching and training courses
Provide technical support to less experienced engineers

The Person

The Intelligent Automation theme at the MTC is after a responsible, self-motivated and proactive Industrial Controls and Connectivity Engineer with knowledge and proven recent experience on industrial process control and connectivity in any relevant industrial or applied R&D environment.

The Industrial Controls and Connectivity Engineer will have:
Broad knowledge on hydraulic and pneumatic systems;
Expert knowledge in process control technologies and standards;
Experience in identifying and solving industrial process control and remote monitoring challenges in continuous processes (e.g. oil & gas, food & drink, pharma);
Experience with PLC and high level programming languages, e.g. Java, C#, C++, SQL;
Knowledge on data exchange for interoperability in the industrial process and manufacturing domain;
Excellent research and creative thinking skills;
Excellent report writing and presentation skills;
Excellent team working attitude;
Relevant degree; Masters, PhD or industrial experience is desirable;
Demonstrable project management skills;
Experience in working with technology/service suppliers;
Experience in external customer engagement is desirable;
Willingness and eligibility to work in UK confidential projects
