Job Description
The UK Battery Industrialisation Centre (UKBIC) are currently recruiting a Laboratory Supervisor or Laboratory Technician to join the company. UKBIC are a leading Lithium-Ion Battery Manufacturing Technical Centre located in the West Midlands. They aim to develop the next generation of battery systems across electrode, cell, module and pack levels to allow companies to move to full scale, high volume battery manufacturing.
Commutable from: Birmingham, Coventry, Warwick, Solihull, Redditch, Nuneaton.
Salary: £ 38,000 - £ 43,000 p.a. + pension + bonus
Suitable for: Laboratory Technician, Metrology Technician, Laboratory Engineer, Test Engineer, NDT Technician.
The Role
The Laboratory Supervisor or Laboratory Technician will perform experiments and testing to develop understanding of the capabilities, under the direction of the Materials Scientists and Work Stream Leaders.
Undertake physical testing of sample pieces as required and coordinate any analysis including sample preparation.
Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOP`s) to accurately measure material properties.
Adhere to and support the extension of our 5S method of working ensuring a well-organised, safe, neat and tidy working environment.
Accurately record, collate and present data ready for analysis, and where possible make recommendations for conclusions or further work.
Write up simple experiments and trials and prepare schedules and reports as required.
Maintain laboratory equipment, spares and tooling inventories, and raise purchase requisitions in order to ensure availability when required.
Maintain materials inventory and supply information to EH&S when required.
Carry out routine cleaning and maintenance on equipment within the Development Laboratory.
To perform any other duties necessary, such as the support of production scale equipment within other work streams in the Centre of Excellence, as instructed.
Establish priorities for required tasks and organise tasks so that deadlines are always met.
Support the behaviour of working, sharing best practice and collaborating with colleagues across other business units.
The Person
The Laboratory Supervisor or Laboratory Technician will have a minimum of 5 GCSE`s including science related subjects, Maths and English. Further education or qualifications in a science or technical discipline would be highly advantageous.
Previous industrial experience in operating equipment in a production or materials development environment would be beneficial.
Experience with the operation or evaluation of emerging technologies, in areas related to the manufacture or processing of Battery technologies or closely related field would be beneficial.
You will have a genuine interest in science and engineering and product or process development especially for emerging technologies.
Must be interested in a practical, hands on role and be able to work as part of a team as well as an individual.
