The Manufacturing Technology Centre is a UK success story - created to provide manufacturing systems solutions in an agile environment in partnership with industry, academia and other institutions.  Working in partnership with Consilium Recruit they are seeking a Research Engineer Laser Processing. The purpose of the role is focused on the technical delivery of projects and to support the development of project related activities.

The Role

 

As the Research Engineer Laser Processing, the initial focus will be to Work with senior colleagues to supply larger projects‘ technical deliverables, and act as Technical Lead for smaller projects where required.

Further responsibilities include:

  • Undertaking innovative Engineering research work focused primarily on technology/manufacturing readiness levels.

  • To contribute in the identification, technical specification and delivery of new and novel technology capability into customers, or industrial members premises.

  • Contribute and support senior colleagues in the theme business and technology strategy.

  • Supporting the proposal of new capability development projects that align with the Department, Technology Theme, and overall MTC strategy.

  • Involved with horizon scanning of technologies and new approaches to solving industrial problems across a range of industrial sectors.

  • Be able to apply this laser processing and materials knowledge as part of a team, in order to solve complex engineering challenges.

  • Have an appreciation of the laser processing market and potential industry challenges.

 

 

The Person

 

The successful candidate for the Research Engineer Laser Processing will possess the following attributes:

 

  • Ideally have studied laser processing topics to Masters or Doctorate level.

  • Have an appreciation of material characterisation and surface metrology, and how this links to laser processing of components.

  • Ideally have experience in operating industrial laser processing machines in the surface engineering or machining field.

  • Be able to apply this laser processing and materials knowledge as part of a team, in order to solve complex engineering challenges.

  • Have an appreciation of the laser processing market and potential industry challenges.

  • Committed to work collaboratively and network effectively.

  • Pragmatic hands-on experience, providing problem solving approach.

  • Self-motivated and a self-starter, with the ability to work autonomously to meet deadlines
