One year on from the government’s Road to Zero strategy, new UK regulations have now been introduced to make electric vehicles safer and provide greater confidence for vulnerable road users.
Manufacturers must now install a sound system in new types of quiet and hybrid cars to produce a specified level of noise (similar to a conventional engine) when reversing or running below 20 km/hr, although can be deactivated temporarily by the driver if required.
With sales of electric and electric hybrid vehicles at an all-time high and continuing to grow on the back of further government incentives and ever expanding consumer choice, this further strengthens the UK position as true global leader in the transition to zero emission transport.
