Engineering and manufacturing recruitment: we speak your language

Engineering plays a vital role in the UK, both in terms of its direct contribution and the ‘multiplier effect’ of engineering jobs creating further opportunities down the supply chain. The sector is responsible for supporting societal welfare through the production of infrastructure, products and services upon which we depend and in answering the challenges that we collectively face as a society. A huge 27 per cent of all enterprises registered in the UK are in the engineering sector, and there are many jobs requiring engineering skills outside of the industry. While technology is fuelling changes to the types of jobs available, there is growth in the demand for many types of engineering jobs.

Manufacturing makes up at least 10 per cent of the UK economy, employing 2.6 million people, and creating jobs for many others across the supply chain. It is one of the most productive industries, due to the excellent infrastructure and training. Manufacturing skills, including, but not limited to, those with engineering qualifications are in demand and compensated accordingly both in terms of salary and employer investment.

Manufacturing processes may seem relatively simple, but they are in fact very complex. Production processes are at the heart of the industry and fall into five main types, depending on which is most efficient for a particular product. These include continuous and intermittent flow production, mass production, batch and one-off ‘job shop’ manufacture. Mass production requires a greater degree of automation, and so the focus for employers is finding those with relevant skills in production maintenance, technical troubleshooting, and machine programming, along with experience of management and innovation. However, those with traditional on-job skills such as injection/extrusion moulding and bearings and power transmission, are also highly sought after.

At Consilium Recruit, we are experts in the recruitment of candidates for specialist roles in electronics, aeronautics and aerospace, automotive, medical and pharmaceutical, manufacturing, rail, power generation, consultancy, and FMCG.
