Director of Battery Engineering
An engineering company commercialising superfast charging lithium-ion battery cells is working with a strong network of partners to bring its technology to the market, and is on track to become a key player in the advanced battery material landscape is currently looking for a Director of Battery Engineering. Working closely with the CTO you will be responsible for designing and running the companies cell development programme. You will have the opportunity to make a significant impact on the technical and commercial direction of the company.

Salary: £ 80.000 - £ 90,000 p.a. + Benefits

As the Director of Battery Engineering will:
Run the development of Li-ion cell products
Lead the company cell prototyping lab, managing a team of electrochemists and cell technicians
Manage our industrial cell scale-up partners and subcontractors, including a cell developer and a cell manufacturer
Collaborate with the lead Material Scientist to give recommendations on optimal material design and production based on cell-testing results
Interface with Cambridge University academic partners to bring the next big idea into the company
Work with the CEO and CTO to set battery performance goals
Assist the CEO to meet and engage with customers and business development leads
A Master`s degree or higher qualification in the field of Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, Physics or a related field.
A minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in Li-ion battery or electrochemical industrial R&D. Exceptional candidates with a PhD degree in a relevant field and less than 3 years of industrial experience will be considered.
A solid understanding of Li-ion battery cell design, with an emphasis on full cells
A confident grasp of Li-ion battery cell manufacturing techniques at the lab and pilot scales, including at a minimum electrode fabrication and single-layer pouch cell assembly
Ability to understand and model battery performance specifications from material to pack levels, using e.g. BatPaC
Understanding of the Li-ion cell market and value chain
