A Controls and Connectivity Senior Research Engineer position has become available at The Manufacturing Technology Centre, The MTC is a UK innovation success story - created to provide manufacturing systems solutions in an agile environment in partnership with industry, academia and other institutions.
The Intelligent Automation theme at the MTC is after a responsible, self-motivated and proactive individual with broad knowledge and recent experience on advanced controls and automation system integration in any relevant industrial or applied R&D environment. The post holder is expected to contribute mostly to Intelligent Automation/Digital Manufacturing/Industry 4.0 related projects, support the management of R&D and commercial projects and provide technical leadership to less experienced staff.
The purpose of this Controls and Connectivity Senior Research Engineer position will include: Largely independent supply of project`s technical deliverables, with the assistance and management of allocated Research Engineers workload The post holder is expected to manage their own projects, support project management by the creation and maintenance of project plans, status reports, and conduct risk reviews in line with MTC`s best practises Technical leadership and management of project and/or work package portfolio >£100K; Lead project proposal and business case writing for small and medium projects; Lead engagement with existing customers to win repeat business and liaison with customer during the project delivery
The successful candidate for the Controls and Connectivity Senior Research Engineer position will be experienced and qualified in the following: Demonstrable creative problem solving, solution concept generation, system design and integration of control solutions for manufacturing and/or automation applications; Substantial experience in development, programming and testing of advanced control algorithms in industrial scale equipment (kinematics, motion controls, intelligent systems; embedded/PLC/PC controlled); Excellent programming skills (C++, C#, Java); Broad knowledge and experience with industrial network specification, standards and protocols, including machine to machine industrial communication (e.g. OPC UA); Knowledge and some experience with industrial robot programming; Good understanding of the manufacturing sector; Excellent ability to capture user requirements and define test cases; Excellent technical and non-technical writing skills; Demonstrable experience in leading and managing large scale projects (>£250k); Demonstrable leadership skills.
Desirable further experience, knowledge and attributes of the candidate include: Experience with Beckhoff technologies; Experience in developing machine connectivity adaptors; Knowledge on industrial middleware technologies; Knowledge on IT networking.
