A global engineering organisation supplying precision components to the aerospace & energy sectors has a new vacancy for a Laboratory Manager to join their new facility. Reporting to the Quality Manager you will be responsible for improving the performance within a fast-paced metallurgical laboratory and candidates are sought with good leadership skills and experience of metallurgy, mechanical property testing and analysis.
You will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the Laboratory Technicians and running of the Lab itself.
Scope and Responsibilities:
Management of Lab staff, costs and supplies. Interpreting Technical Specifications in relation to processing of exotic alloys Ensure Certification standards are met for the Lab in line with NADCAP standards Ensure Lab staff are trained in all testing methods including Vickers and Rockwell hardness, Tensile Testing, Shear Testing, Fatigue testing, Stress Durability testing and basic optical metallography Ensure all equipment is calibrated correctly Working in a busy laboratory assisting hands on with day-to-day issues for demanding customer deadlines. Be a key decision maker and support other departments/customers in technical discussions Some basic report writing and numerical calculations will be required.
With good leadership skills the successful candidate will be a qualified engineer and will have experience working in a fast-paced metallurgical laboratory. Exposure to coating, electrochemical/corrosion properties, and Aerospace standards would be a distinct advantage.
You must have good problem-solving skills and attention to detail and be able to communicate with people at all levels including cross functionally within the business and with customers.
