The Informatics group undertakes innovative research work focused primarily on manufacturing Capability Readiness Level (MCRLs) 4-6 in many areas of manufacturing data information systems. The purpose of this role is to develop and run projects in the Data & Information Systems research area specifically data analytics, artificial intelligence (AI), manufacturing execution systems (MES) and machine learning.
The key responsibilities and duties of the Research Engineer - Data & Information Systems will include:
Supporting the Digital Engineering theme in particular the Data and Information Systems team with creative problem solving, solution concepts, system design and integration. Contributing to projects related to Artificial Intelligence, data systems, data mining and decision support systems. Developing proposals for individual research projects to meet clients` needs in full. Ensure work undertaken will meet r exceed customers` expectations. Supply of projects technical deliverables under guidance of senior member of staff. Support project proposal and business case writing. Generate new project ideas in alignment with the Digital Theme`s strategy. Act as a technical point of contact with new and existing customers during project delivery.
The successful candidate for Research Engineer - Data & Information Systems will be experienced and qualified in the following:
Minimum of degree qualified with a computer science bias plus minimum of 2 years industry experience or equivalent experience. Demonstrable commercial awareness within the manufacturing sector is desirable. Knowledge of Business Process Modelling (BPMN), Object Orientated Modelling or Unified Process (UML2). Experience and expert knowledge of at least one of the high-level programming languages (Python, R, Java, C/C++ or C#) Familiar with Back End development. Experience in the use of advanced statistical analysis and machine learning methods. Theoretical knowledge of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning applications. Proficiency with Python and basic libraries for machine learning such as scikit-learn and pandas. Experience of relational and non-relation data storage software. Experience in tech stacks including Back-end java, Node.js, Python, Spring, .NET or angular.js.
