The purpose of the role is to lead and support the technical delivery of projects within the Electronics research field, focusing on the design, development and manufacture of solutions for power electronics, machines and drives to create innovative solutions and positive impact on future net zero aspirations.

The Senior Research Engineer Electronics will generate key project and strategic initiatives within the electronics field and take leadership and ownership of new capability developments aligned within the overall MTC strategy.
The role encompasses:
You will deliver innovative and creative technical solutions within the field of power electronics, showing awareness of both industrial challenges and project funding routes including internal, industrial and CR&D channels.
Undertaking innovative engineering research work focused primarily on technology/manufacturing readiness levels (TRL/MFL 3+) ensuring work is delivered to customer requirements within the agreed budgets and timescales.
Involvement in all aspects of project delivery taking overall ownership and ensure compliance with all relevant stands, technical support of commissioning and management of project budgets and deliverables.
You will lead engagement with customers and support horizon scanning of new technologies and new approaches to solve industrial problems across a range of sectors.
The successful candidate for the Senior Research Engineer Electronics
role will possess the following attributes:
You will possess a degree or equivalent qualification within a STEM discipline and strong background in power electronics, machines and drives.
The Senior Research Engineer will be conversant with power electronic components such as IGBT, MOSFET, SiC MOSFET, Gate Driver and inverter systems.
You will be well versed in design and testing of high voltage inverters with power up to 600kW and experienced in designing SiC gate circuits, measurement circuits and implementing fault detection/protection systems.
You will demonstrate proficiency in the safe use of high voltage test equipment such as PSUs, power analysers and motor test dynos.
Previous usage of laboratory test equipment is highly advantageous for the role alongside working experience in a programming language (Structured Text, Python, C/C++ or C# and Micro controller or other hardware programming experience is highly favourable.
Awareness of potentially transferable technologies from other sectors alongside a keen commitment to your professional development such as Chartered status and professional registration is highly desirable for this position.
