The Manufacturing Technology Centre is a UK success story - created to provide manufacturing systems solutions in an agile environment in partnership with industry, academia and other institutions. Working in partnership with Consilium Recruit they are seeking a Senior Research Engineer Automation, Mechatronics, Electronics & Automation. The purpose of the role is primarily focused on the independent technical delivery of projects and leadership in the development of project related activities within the Advanced Production Systems Technology arena.

As the Senior Research Engineer Automation, Mechatronics, Electronics & Automation, the initial focus will be to undertake innovative Engineering research work focused primarily on technology/manufacturing readiness levels for Advanced Production Systems Technology projects.
Further responsibilities include:
Taking ownership of Advanced Production Systems Technology projects to ensure work meets or exceeds agreed customer requirements, and is delivered within agreed budgets and timescales.
Support Senior Managers with a proactive approach in the identification, technical specification, and delivery of new and novel technology capability into the MTC.
Involvement in all aspects of the project delivery, taking overall ownership and ensuring compliance with all relevant standards.
You will be expected to line-manage, coach and mentor others within the team, supporting the resource manager in development and deployment of colleagues.
Able to demonstrate the use of coaching and mentoring to support colleagues and transfer knowledge in the Automation, Mechatronics, Electronics & Manufacturing arena.
Create robust processes for identifying, capturing and prioritising training needs for the organisation and individual team members.
Ensure the Leadership Academy agenda is aligned to the overall business strategy.
Work with business leaders and HR to identify and analyse learning needs and develop learning interventions.
Apply L&D methods, tools and best practices to include planning, design, development and project management to deliver learning solutions utilising a blend of learning methods and technology.
The successful candidate for the Senior Research Engineer Automation, Mechatronics, Electronics & Automation will possess the following attributes:
Confident to advise external customers and create concept designs of automation solutions, right through to commissioning robotics/automation cells and equipment on site.
Expert knowledge of automation and robotics systems and understanding of commercially available and developing technologies relating to: safety systems, robot programming, kinematics, dynamics, motion / pathway planning, closed-loop control system, computer vision.
Experience with automation / robotics software or software development (ROS, C++, Python), experience developing embedded software, or knowledgeable of their application and industrial limitations.
Degree calibre engineer, in a related discipline: Computer-science, Robotics Engineering, scientist or mathematician.
Ideally, experienced in an industrial sector such as food and drink, or general industry, and can clearly articulate knowledge of the manufacturing sector and deep understanding of manufacturing systems and technologies.
Understanding of electrical standards, e.g. IEC 60204-1, PUWER, Machinery Directive, ideally a Certified Machine Safety Expert (CSME), understanding and application of Safety Integrity Level (SIL).
Ideally have experience of working on collaborative R&D projects e.g. Innovate UK H2020.
