Working in partnership with Consilium Recruit they are seeking a Senior Research Engineer - Departmental Resource Manager - Informatics. The role will be primarily focused on the independent technical delivery of projects and leadership in the development of project related activities across The MTC, working across various technology departments and industrial sectors. Where required, the role may take additional responsibility to support the leadership, and carrying out of, a specific functional role within a Technology function or large program of work within the MTC‘s Technology Group or Industrial Sectors.

The Role

 

The role of Senior Research Engineer - Departmental Resource Manager - Informatics will have:

  • Technical knowledge within the areas of industrial digital technologies, e.g. AI, analytics, industrial communications, software development, cybersecurity and systems, Mixed/Augmented Reality, enterprise architectures.

  • Understanding of the challenges in the adoption of industrial digital technologies in a manufacturing business and how they will drive advances in manufacturing and resultant return on investment.

  • Commercial awareness

 

The role requires leadership and management in the specific areas of resource development, resource deployment and line management for the Informatics department.

 

Resource Development

For the associated pool of colleagues:

  • Oversee career development and ensure alignment with the organisation‘s needs.

  • Ensure that the departmental skills and competency profile is in line with the MTC‘s strategic objectives.

  • Development of appropriate retention strategies.

 

Resource Deployment

For the associated pool of colleagues:

  • Represent your business unit within the Resource Management function.

  • Ensure strategic and optimal deployment of engineering resource across portfolio of industrial and technology sector projects. Aspects include deployment of appropriate skillsets to projects to ensure that delivery is carried out with consideration to project impact, cost, and opportunities for skills development.

  • Provide additional resource consistent with the technology group‘s make-buy policy through recruitment, use of member‘s in-kind contributions and deployment of resources through the MTC‘s resource partners.

 

Line Management

For the associated pool of colleagues:

  • Provide day-to-day line management of your first line reports.

  • Ensure that engineers are able to work in an environment that aligns to the MTC‘s RIGHT way of working. To address any issues of conflict or capability in a timely, impartial and appropriate manner.

  • Ensure that MTC work is carried out in the RIGHT way, ensuring that the values of quality, cost, time and impact are instilled in the manner of delivery.

  • Ensure that effective communication of business updates is carried out in a timely, consistent manner through all levels of the business.

  • Be a point of escalation for any people, performance and resource issues relevant to the team. Use a radical candour approach to manage team members to align outputs with the required objectives and performance levels. Be a source of coaching and mentoring up, down and across the team structure.

 

 

The Person

 

The ideal candidate for the role of Senior Research Engineer - Departmental Resource Manager - Informatics will have/be:

  • Degree calibre engineer, technologist, scientist or mathematician.

  • Ideally working towards professional registration, chartered professional qualification is desirable;

  • Demonstrable substantial and recognised expertise in a specific area relevant to the theme. Expert knowledge of the manufacturing sector and deep understanding of manufacturing systems and technologies;

  • Committed to work collaboratively and network effectively, able to recognise the contribution of others and team-work with a one MTC mind-set;

  • Pragmatic hands-on experience, providing problem solving approach and who is willing to physically participate in completion of work when required.

  • Self-motivated and a self-starter, with the ability to work autonomously to meet deadlines, budgets and quality expectations, both within a team, or independently.

  • Experience working where subsequent adherence to associated process and policy is critical to maintain customer confidentiality.
