The Manufacturing Technology Centre is a UK success story - created to provide manufacturing systems solutions in an agile environment in partnership with industry, academia and other institutions. Working in partnership with Consilium Recruit they are seeking a Technical Buyer. The role will be responsible for the delivery of the MTC‘s technical purchasing priorities and will apply procurement, manufacturing, commercial and contractual expertise and influencing skills to manage and control the purchase of goods, materials and services for projects.

The Technical Buyer role‘s purpose is to support the development and implementation of innovative sustainable approaches to supply arrangements which enhance services provided, whilst minimising costs and commercial risk. The role will lead on key procurement decisions that affect the MTC‘s spend areas, from responding to day-to-day queries and advice from key stakeholders within the organisation, through to having to formulate, lead and present a strategic vision of procurement that meets the future long-term needs of the organisation.
Duties and responsibilities include:
To identify and lead on technical procurement projects, tenders and contracts and take operational responsibility for the projects and tenders. Lead the make/buy process on behalf of procurement.
Negotiate contracts, improve prices and terms of business with suppliers and review opportunities to make business savings
Purchase goods, materials, components or services in accordance with specified technical, quality and delivery requirements
Provide procurement support for new designs, and when necessary, participate in make /buy process
Ensure full life-cycle strategy and support, considering project service life and any obsolescence risks
Manage supplier leads times to meet project milestones
Support new customer proposals as required with cost and lead-time estimates
Carry out user needs analysis; market research; sourcing activity; assess impact on Social values; structure tenders; market engagement; tender evaluation; negotiation; legal requirements; contract finalisation.
To maintain an on-going market awareness and assessment of spend across the business assessing risks, opportunities and controlling un-authorised spend.
The successful candidate for the role of Technical Buyer will have/be:
Significant procurement experience in a medium to large organisation in either the public, private or third sectors
Enthusiastic, delivering a high-quality service to meet customer, organisational and personal expectations. Adopt a ’can do‘ attitude in all work ensuring it meets the needs of current and potential customers.
Procurement practice at operational levels
Developing and implementing negotiation strategies & techniques.
CIPS Diploma & Membership or studying towards it
Knowledge of Manufacturing processes
