The Role         


We are looking for innovators with an entrepreneurial mindset to create impact.


This Intelligent Automation Team Leader role is a combination of team leaderships and project delivery including but not restricted to: concept generation, detailed design, ensuring compliance with all relevant standards, technical support of commissioning, and an opportunity to lead, manage, and develop both people and projects. The individual will also have an opportunity to work collaboratively across MTC‘s broad technology departments and industrial sectors.


  • Team management duties: this will involve day-to-day line management, development of engineers, deploying engineers onto projects and assisting recruitment where required.

  • Oversee project technical deliverables, taking ownership to ensure work meets or exceeds customer requirements, and is delivered within budgets and timescales. Where delegated, to act as a Technical Governor for project deliverables.


The Person


The successful candidate for the role of an Intelligent Automation Team Leader will have/be:


  • A BSc/BEng degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Integrated, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics or other appropriate science/engineering degree or apprenticeship


  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in R&D or industrial setting

  • Expert knowledge of automation and robotics systems and awareness of commercially available and developing technologies relating to: safety systems, robot programming, kinematics, dynamics, motion / pathway planning, closed-loop control system, computer vision;

  • Able to advise external customers and create concept designs of automation solutions, right through to commissioning robotics/automation cells and equipment on site (FAT/SAT, CE marking of equipment or awareness);

  • Experience with automation / robotics software, or software development (ROS, C++, Python) for robotics, experience developing embedded software, or knowledgeable of their application and industrial limitations. Ideally also knowledgeable of PLCs, controls and programming.

  • Experience of design and development of robotic and automation technologies, can demonstrate expertise in automation product development;

  • Knowledge or experience of human / robot collaboration and co-botics, and/or tele-operation technologies and capabilities;

  • Ideally, experienced in an industrial sector, or general industry, and can clearly articulate knowledge of the manufacturing sector and deep understanding of manufacturing systems and technologies;

  • Experience in day-to-day line management of engineers including: resource management, absence management, development of engineers, assisting recruitment.
