The Role         

 

We are looking for innovators with an entrepreneurial mindset to create impact.

 

This Electrical & Controls Team Leader role is a combination of team leaderships and project delivery including but not restricted to: concept generation, detailed design, ensuring compliance with all relevant standards, technical support of commissioning, and an opportunity to lead, manage, and develop both people and projects. The individual will also have an opportunity to work collaboratively across MTC‘s broad technology departments and industrial sectors.

 

  • Team management duties: this will involve day-to-day line management, development of engineers, deploying engineers onto projects and assisting recruitment where required.

  • Oversee project technical deliverables, taking ownership to ensure work meets or exceeds customer requirements, and is delivered within budgets and timescales. Where delegated, to act as a Technical Governor for project deliverables.

 

The Person

 

The successful candidate for the role of an Electrical & Controls Team Leader will have/be:

  • A BSc/BEng degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Integrated, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechatronics or other appropriate science/engineering degree or apprenticeship

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in R&D or industrial setting

  • Demonstrate the use of coaching and mentoring with colleagues and transfer knowledge in area of expertise to others, within own department and wider MTC colleagues, proactive in enabling training and development of team members

  • Ability to design and build electrical systems, integrating commercial-off-the-shelf motors, drives, PLCs, SCADA, with due consideration for electrical standards e.g. IEC 60205-1, PUWER, machinery directive,

  • Ideally Certified Machinery Safety Expert (CMSE) and/or understanding and application of Safety Integrity Level (SIL)

  • Experience with Beckhoff TwinCAT and/or Siemens TIA Portal or similar PLC vendors, and demonstrable competence with IEC61131-3 languages

  • Committed to work collaboratively and network effectively, able to recognise the contribution of others and team-work with a one MTC mind-set.

  • Self-motivated and a self-starter, with the ability to work autonomously to meet deadlines, budgets and quality expectations, both within a team, or independently.
