Working in partnership with Consilium Recruit the MTC has a unique opportunity for a Senior Research Engineer - Design for Additive Manufacture. The role within the Design for Additive Manufacturing (DfAM) Team is a combination of team leadership and project delivery where the candidate would be working across multiple technology departments and industrial sectors.

The Role

 

The Senior Research Engineer - Design for Additive Manufacture role offers the opportunity to work with senior managers to deliver the corporate objectives of MTC and to lead, or contribute to, specific business initiatives or continuous improvement activities.

 

Duties and responsibilities include:

 

  • Team management duties: this will involve day-to-day line management, development of engineers, absence management and assisting recruitment where required.

  • Oversee project technical deliverables, taking ownership to ensure work meets or exceeds customer requirements, and is delivered within budgets and timescales. Where delegated, to act as a Technical Governor for project deliverables.

  • Undertake innovative Engineering research work focused primarily on technology/manufacturing readiness levels (TRL/MRL) 3+, and able to demonstrate industrial project delivery.

  • Assist Senior Managers with a proactive approach in the identification, technical specification, and delivery of new and novel technology capability into the MTC, customers, or industrial member‘s premises.

  • Involvement in all aspects of the project delivery, taking overall ownership and ensuring compliance with all relevant standards, technical guidance on commissioning, management of project budget and deliverables.

 

 

The Person

 

The successful candidate for the role of Senior Research Engineer - Design for Additive Manufacture will have/be:

 

  • You will be a degree-calibre engineer, technologist, scientist or mathematician, have an understanding of the breadth of Engineering technologies and their respective manufacturing industrial applications across the Technology theme.

  • Have experience leading a multi-disciplinary team or multiple teams, with day to day line management of Engineers and their development (1-2-1s, appraisals, etc.);

  • You will have a range of management and leadership skills along with knowledge and experience relating directly to the delivery of this management role. You will use this to lead the activities you are responsible for and to contribute to broader debates on the tactical direction of the business;

  • Demonstrable, substantial and recognised expertise in a specific area relevant to the theme (Additive Manufacturing). Expert knowledge of the manufacturing sector and deep understanding of manufacturing systems and technologies;

  • Experience and knowledge of applying additive manufacturing techniques and principles. Practical experience with development and optimisation of additive based designs in collaboration with alternative manufacturing techniques including the use of innovative design tools and processes. A firm understanding of Design for Additive methods and workflows will be required.

  • Able to think strategically;

  • Adept at using Microsoft toolset: Word, PowerPoint & Excel
