The Role    

 

The Technology Manager role will will be accountable to the Associate Director for the Component Manufacturing Technology (CMT) Group. You will be expected to work collaboratively with colleagues in the management teams within the Technology Group and Industrial Sectors to deliver the corporate objectives of the MTC and ensure alignment and effective delivery of functional and business unit strategies.

 

In the first instance the focus of your job will be to carry out the duties of a Product Manager. At some future date - following agreement between yourself and your line manager - you should expect to undertake other Technology Group management roles in the business

 

Duties and responsibilities include:

 

  • Working with colleagues in the same functional role to deliver the corporate objectives of the MTC and ensure alignment and effective delivery of functional strategies.

  • Collaborating closely with colleagues in the same management team to deliver the objectives of the business unit. This requires an ability to influence people outside your line management in order to drive the best result for the MTC holistically and not just for a small element of the company.

  • Work with senior managers to deliver the corporate objectives of MTC and to lead, or contribute to, specific business initiatives or continuous improvement activities.

  • On an as required basis, work collegiately with all or some of the High Value Manufacturing Catapult network of centres, MTC‘s academic partners & Members and appropriate sub-contractors to strengthen our eco-system‘s ability to support our clients and stakeholders.

  • Work with MTC‘s Marketing Department to produce case studies and other media that demonstrate the impact that MTC is having, whilst respecting client confidentiality at all times.

  • Coaching and mentoring direct reports, and other colleagues as required, is an essential part of your role to support the development of leadership and management capability across the business.

  • Responsibility for your own and your colleague‘s health and safety, pro-actively reporting any concerns, near-misses or accidents.

 

 

The Person

 

The successful candidate for the role of Technology Manager will have/be:

 

  • A degree-calibre engineer, technologist, or scientist- with experience of:

  • Component manufacturing technologies such as Additive Manufacturing, Net Shape, Laser Processing or Joining technologies.

  • The collaborative funding R&D funding landscape and bid management.

  • Building and maintaining a strong sales pipeline.

 

  • You will have a range of management and leadership skills along with knowledge and experience relating directly to the delivery of this management role. You will use this to lead the activities you are responsible for and to contribute to broader debates on the tactical direction of the business.

  • Adept at using micro-soft toolset: Word, PowerPoint & Excel

  • Experience of developing, writing and managing collaborative R&D, and industrial proposals.

  • Experience of owning, maintaining and expanding key customer / prospect relationships.

  • Consultative / solution selling experience within an R&D environment.

  • Experience of shaping technology offerings to meet wide ranging industrial needs to ensure relevance is maintained.
