The Role

The Technology Manager role is responsible for providing leadership and delivery of a specific function, or the technical delivery of a large programme of work, within part of the MTC‘s Technology Group, or Industrial Sectors; see Appendix A for organisational structures and further details of MTC.

You will be accountable to the Chief Engineer - Technology for the delivery of your role, with a dotted-line reporting to the Associate Director. You will be expected to work collaboratively with colleagues in the management teams within the Technology Group and Industrial Sectors to deliver the corporate objectives of the MTC and ensure alignment and effective delivery of functional and business unit strategies.

Duties and responsibilities include:

  • Where applicable, you will work with colleagues in the same functional role to deliver the corporate objectives of the MTC and ensure alignment and effective delivery of functional strategies.

  • You will be required to collaborate closely with colleagues in the same management team to deliver the objectives of the business unit or large project. This requires an ability to influence people outside your line management in order to drive the best result for the MTC holistically and not just for a small element of the company.

  • The role offers the opportunity to work with senior managers to deliver the corporate objectives of MTC and to lead, or contribute to, specific business initiatives or continuous improvement activities.

The Person

The successful candidate for the role of Technology Manager will have/be:

  • Degree-calibre engineer, technologist, scientist or mathematician or equivalent.

  • Possess a technical background in Systems Engineering and principles; able to demonstrate a level of technical leadership experience and must have a desire to progress their career in this direction to drive and develop this capability across MTC.

  • Demonstrable knowledge of problem-solving tools and error-proofing techniques, ideally able to utilise these in collaborative workshop environments. Can demonstrate a firm understanding of engineering principles.

  • Comfortable with low defined (thematic) engineering problems and challenges, and high levels of ambiguity - ideally can demonstrate technical leadership to define solutions to these, communicate these solutions to engineering colleagues and manage delivery.

  • Experience of application of Design For ’X‘ with experience generating 3D models, manufacturing drawings, and the ability to justify manufacturing process selection, with knowledge and experience of principal theory, and preferably in implementation.

  • Ideally, experience in implementing or maintaining engineering policy, practices, frameworks or standards within an organisation, with an eye for continuous improvement and challenging the status quo.

  • INCOSE Chartered professional qualification is desirable.

  • Adept at using micro-soft toolset: Word, PowerPoint & Excel.

Equality, diversity, and inclusion are integral to everything that we do. We are committed to these values and they are central to our mission. We encourage applications from all backgrounds and communities, and we are more than happy to discuss any reasonable adjustments that you may require.
