Consilium Recruit are proudly supporting Darwin Group with their exciting growth plans. They are seeking a Design Manager on a permanent and full-time basis. You will have strong experience leading and managing design teams in a construction environment.


Commutable from:  Telford, Shrewsbury, Ludlow, Wrexham, Wolverhampton

The Role

Darwin Group is the UK’s leading modular construction provider for the Healthcare Sector, providing unique design and build projects that are delivered in half the time associated with traditional construction methods. They offer a complete turnkey solution, owning all stages of the design and build process through their in-house team of more than 150 Design, Commercial and Construction specialists.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Managing and ultimately responsible for all design information on any assigned projects.
  • Ensuring accurate information is produced in line with contract documents and Darwin Group’s construction methods.
  • Working on projects throughout all RIBA stages; producing, checking, coordinating and managing design outputs including (but not limited to); drawings, specifications, room data sheets and visuals.
  • Effectively manage workload within the team ensuring all deadlines are met.
  • Ensuring that the resource capacity is monitored/updated weekly and reported to the Design Director/Head of design.
  • Ensuring statutory regulation and planning compliance on all projects and report to the Design Director/Head of Design fortnightly.
  • Ensuring that project design technicians are updating design project trackers (Design, Procurement, Survey, RDD & RFI) regularly and providing an update weekly.
  • Participate in, and arrange as necessary, prestart meetings, progress meetings, design meetings and final account meetings, with the sub-contractors and project team to ensure that all stages of the build are adhering to good design practices.
  • Attending regular meetings with the project team to ensure that there is consistent cohesion between the design, procurement, programming, and on-site delivery of all aspects of the scope of work.
  • Attending site meetings across the UK, may include overnight stays from time to time.
  • Maintain positive and proactive relationships with client teams.
  • Maintain open and transparent communication within the project team and other departments within the company.
  • Being a key contributor towards ensuring that pre-construction programmes in relation to procurement and design are established and that they are realistic and in keeping with the overall project programme dates set.
  • Adhere to the dates set out in procurement and design programmes
  • Put together detailed design work packages and Scope of Works to be sent out to suppliers and consultants.
  • Ensuring any design revisions or updates are distributed quickly to the project team, site manager, external contractors, consultants and the client team, where applicable, in line with company procedures.
  • Sign off purchase orders where applicable ensuring that the scope of works and design information is correct.
  • Responsible for special design compliances or statutory applications including but not limited to; BREEAM, planning, highways work, drainage connections, service upgrades, BRUKL’s and EPC’s.
  • Lodge all Building Control applications and ensure that Building Control Compliance is achieved.
  • Apply for and manage planning applications including full applications, condition applications and amendments, ensuring statutory dates are adhered to.
  • Ensure personal development reviews are undertaken at least every 6 months with team members unless agreed otherwise with Design Director.

 
The Person

You will be an experienced Design Manager within the Construction sector who is passionate about delivering the best possible outcomes for customers and ensuring effective engagement for all stakeholders. A recognised qualification relevant to the field is highly desirable such as Design/CAD related or Quantity Surveying/Procurement.

The Design Manager will possess the ability to lead, engage and inspire a team and provide an excellent focal point as a subject matter expert in the design field. You will enjoy interacting with both external and internal stakeholders and have a proven background in supporting professional development within teams you have previously led and managed.
